And of course comprehend everything 100% as you read.Fluency Activities

Reading fluency is all about engaging the brain in constant reading workouts.

Just as we get fit with our bodies through vigorous weight lifting, our minds need the same work outs to help us grasp the sentences in books. The first step to initiate fluency in reading is by getting involved. Fluent reading doesn’t come through sitting around and dreaming of ourselves reading passage after passage aloud as an imaginary audience applauds.

But before we get into self engagement, we first need to have an idea of what good and fluent reading is all about. This means we need to listen to people read fluently so we can draw on these experiences. We can do this either by listening carefully to readings  presented in class or seminars and on the other hand we can listen to recordings or download reading lessons from the internet.

Once we have a grasp of what reading fluency is all about, we can then take part actively to get to these heights of fluency. It involves repeated practice with different reading materials. Get lots and lots of poem books and get train yourself on phrase reading. You need to get acquainted with libraries so you can make most of the books and novels you can actively read. And as you read, do it out loud so you can be able to detect mistakes. One more thing you should always avoid placing a finger on the words, this gets you jammed on word by word reading as opposed to excelling in phrase reading.

Reading fluency can be further enhanced through active participation in class. Of course you’ll make several mistakes along the way but don’t let it bring you down. Even Thomas Edison made dozens of errors before he gave us the first light bulb.
